When we think of the "1980s," images of discos and video arcades flash before our eyes. There were also several big international events that occurred in the 1980s, such as a rapid expansion of space exploration and harsh political tensions. Tore down the Berlin Wall immediately following his remark, "Tear it down." Finally, Eastern Germany opened its borders to the rest of Germany on November 9, 1989, signalling the end of the German split. It was created to separate the Western and Eastern portions of Berlin and symbolised the free world and the Soviet Union. In addition, the Berlin Wall served as a historical reminder of the Cold War, and its fall was widely celebrated across the world.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Gorbachev, the Soviet Union
Mikhail Gorbachev became the Soviet Union's new leader on March 11, 1985. To describe the improvements that Gorbachev made during his time in office, "glasnost" was coined. Perestroika, a term used to describe the economic and political transformations that took place during this time period, referred to both the increasing automation and labour efficiency, as well as the heightened awareness of economic markets and the end of central planning.
